Why Energy

Manual reconciliation is bleeding African fuel retail.

Pump readings, till receipts, daily reconciliations — done by hand, prone to error, prone to theft. Across thousands of stations, the losses add up to billions annually. The hardware to fix this is now affordable. We're building the software, hardware integration, and supply chain that closes the gap.

Our edge

We're a tech-first company that ships hardware and software. Filling stations are full of devices the till never talks to. We design the integration layer from African operational reality — manual reconciliation, mid-shift cash counts, shift-change disputes.

Why now

Fuel retail across Africa loses billions annually to shrinkage and reconciliation error. The IoT hardware that fixes this is now affordable. Regulators are pushing digitisation. The window to build the standard system is open.

Where we play

Independent and chain fuel retailers in Nigeria first. From single stations to multi-site fuel networks. West Africa next, where the same problems repeat at scale.

Today

Where we are now

Stage: Research & Design
Pump-to-till integration

In design. The hardware and protocol layer that connects every dispenser directly to the station's till and the cloud. Every litre dispensed becomes a transaction record automatically. No manual entry.

Audit and reporting cloud

In design. Real-time sales dashboard, audit-grade transaction logs, per-shift and per-pump reconciliation, multi-site rollups for chain retailers. The end of mid-shift cash counts.

Supply chain (target)

Targeting established hardware partnerships in China for sensor and IoT components. Early outreach underway. The plan is direct supply at component prices that make end-to-end systems affordable in our market.

Roadmap

Where we're going

Dated milestones — past achievements and future targets.

Energy initiative scoped within BOU
2025

Decision to commit BOU's tech-first approach to smart filling stations. Picked the product, picked the market.

Concept and feasibility complete
2025

Technical scoping and feasibility. Product specifications locked. Architecture decisions made on hardware platform, integration approach, and cloud stack.

Prototype design + supply-chain outreach
In progress

Building first prototypes for the pump-to-till integration layer and the audit cloud. Active outreach to established Chinese hardware partners for component sourcing.

First station pilot
2027

First live installation at a working filling station. Real-world data to refine product, pricing, and operational model before scaling.

Commercial launch
2028

Smart filling stations available for commercial sale across Nigeria. Independent retailers first, then chains.

Expand beyond Nigeria
2029+

West Africa first. Same product, same playbook, in markets where manual reconciliation is bleeding fuel retail at scale.

Also in the lab

Solar consumption analytics

A second product in early concept work — a monitoring layer that lets households and small businesses see, in real time, what their solar system is producing and what each device is consuming. Same thesis as smart filling stations: African energy works better when the data does.
